After reading hair fiber pros and cons you may find that they are the perfect solution to filling in those thinning areas of your scalp. Then, I will answer some additional questions about hair fibers and tell you why I don’t think hair fibers are worth it. But first, here are hair fiber pros and cons in the table below.
Hair Fiber Pros
Instant coverage of thinning and balding areas. Because the cosmetic nature of hair fibers alone, means that it is not a permanent solution to baldness.
The possibility to carefully fill in thinning gaps of a receding hairline. Although they do come in a variety of natural hair colors none are perfectly matched for any one particular hair color.
They are all natural. Keratin is a natural ingredient. You may still have that scalp glow which is normally associated with thinning hair. Despite efforts to cover your scalp, under brightly and not so brightly lit conditions, your scalp will still be visible even with hair fibers, since light can penetrate even the thickest of hair fibers.
No need for hair transplant surgery, hair systems or to pay for wigs. They are not waterproof. So you cannot take a swim, go for a shower or even get caught out in the rain with hair fibers in your hair. There’s result will be them running down your forehead and neck. Staining your clothes and making your face look like lines of mascara running down it.
Very easy to apply. You can do it yourself at home. They can be water resistant only if you use a hair fiber holding spray. However, just how water resistant, even with a hair fiber holding spray, is debatable.
Great for temporary coverage and for situations where you will be on a conference video call or photographed. You would be surprised at how many celebrities actually use hair fibers for quick solutions to thinning hair. Once they’re in your hair, you cannot touch them. Neither can anyone else. The result will be the hair fibers coating your fingertips or of someone that you could be intimate with. This can create quite an embarrassing situation since your fingertips or the other person’s fingertips will look like they’ve just been booked and fingerprinted at the local police station.
Hair fibers come in a variety of natural hair colors. Hair fibers are only a temporary stop gap solution to thinning hair and balding. You must reapply them daily.
Hair fibers also have holding sprays that can make hair fibers water resistant. You can’t sleep with hair fibers in your hair since they may stain pillowcases and sheets.
Hair fibers also have various application tools so you can apply them very strategically without all the mess.
You can use hair fibers even between hair transplant surgery sessions. Of course, after the incisions and scabbing have healed. But after that, you can actually use hair fibers to conceal the fact that you’re having hair restoration surgery done.
Is it OK to use toppik everyday?
Yes, you can use Toppik every day. In fact, if you want continued coverage on a daily basis you will need to apply Toppik not only everyday but also after your head is exposed to water. For example, after showering, swimming, etc. or after periods of heavy perspiration.

No, there is no scientific evidence or clinical studies that show keratin hair fibers are a cause of hair loss.
Do hair fibers come off when you sweat?
Hair fibers can come off when you sweat. Especially if you do not use a hair fiber holding spray.
Even with a hair fiber holding spray, nothing is 100% guaranteed. If you sweat profusely, you may notice a few runs if those keratin hair fibers get wet from your sweat.
Can you sleep with hair fibers?
You can sleep with hair fibers, however I wouldn’t chance it. Even with hair fiber holding spray, there is a good chance that some of those hair fibers may smear your sheets or pillowcases.

Unfortunately, there is no way to make your hair fibers waterproof. However, with a hair fiber holding spray, you can make them water resistant.

However, if you take a dive in a pool or in the ocean, you’re more than guaranteed when you come out of the water your hair fibers will be left behind floating in it.
Does Toppik work on bald spots?
Toppik works surprisingly well on bald spots. Even seemingly very bald spots.
This is because even with the baldest of bald spots do have some vellus hair growing.
Those keratin hair fibers will stick to those vellus hairs like you wouldn’t believe, giving you additional coverage.
I wouldn’t look for miracles, but you’d be surprised at how well Toppik works even on the baldest of bald spots.
Also you should note that in cases of Alopecia Areata where there are little to no “vellus” hair usually present in the bald spots caused by the condition, hair fibers are unable to adhere to those bald areas of the scalp.
